The governing body is the Philippines Rugby Football Union, which was founded in 1999.[1] [2]
Like many other Asian countries, early rugby in the Philippines was dominated by expatriates, who tended not to spread the game to the local population.[2] These included British, Australians, New Zealanders, and to a lesser extent Americans.
Nowadays the game has take up across the population, including in schools, and the military, and by charitable institutions.[2]
The Philippines takes part in the Pacific Asia region of the Asian Five Nations. In 2009, they won promotion from the third to the second division.[3]
